Youth Engagement & Leadership
Not only are young people our future, they are also capable of creating and sustaining important change in the now. Burlington Partnership for a Healthy Community (BPHC) is committed to inspiring and empowering local youth to be prevention leaders in our community. Our youth programming is driven by the One Voice Youth Empowerment Model and the Above the Influence Campaign.
How to Get Involved:
Youth Leadership Groups are for Burlington residents who are 18 and under and interested in taking action to improve the community. BPHC coordinates youth empowerment groups with the support of the Burlington School District.
Above the Influence Burlington (ATI BTV) – High School Prevention Group
Living above the influence is a commitment to making positive, healthy decisions that will allow you to achieve your goals and experience the best that life has to offer, AND to supporting others to do the same. In order to live above the influence, you need to know the facts about negative influences like alcohol and other drugs and you need the tools and support to rise above them. This is where the Above the Influence group comes in. Above the Influence Burlington (ATI BTV) members at Burlington High School team up to support and inspire each other to live substance-free lives AND to bring about positive change in their school and broader community. ATI BTV members gain the knowledge and develop the skills to participate in a wide range of activities including:
- community education and outreach,
- public speaking,
- data analysis, and
- media advocacy
“When I joined Above the Influence substance abuse prevention group at Burlington High School I was fully supported to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is so much easier to live substance-free when the people around you are not using.” ~ Libby Branch, Burlington High School Senior and Above the Influence Member
Above the Influence Burlington Meetings:
Burlington High School – Wednesdays from 7:45 – 8:45 AM in the BHS Library Balcony
If you are a Burlington High School student and you want to get involved, contact Tara Rueckert or Jessica Summer at 802.652.0997, email email@example.com, or connect with ATI BTV on Facebook and Instagram.

Like the Burlington High School ATI BTV members, BE Above BTV members support and inspire one another to live above the influence of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drugs. BE Above members gain knowledge about prevention topics and develop a wide range of important prevention and life skills. They take action and accomplish great things for their schools and their community!
