Michael Hill, Jr. and Ian Speers Become Newest Members of BPHC Board of Advisors

BPHC is proud and excited to welcome two new members to our Board of Advisors: Michael Hill, Jr. and Ian Speers.

Michael holds a Master’s in Social Work and Educational Leadership from UVM. His work has focused on empowering youth, young adults, and families across different communities and educational settings. Through his consultancy, EJHFutures LLC, he leads workshops and conversations on equity, healing racial harm, and restorative practices. His expertise includes early childhood development, guiding parents in discussing racial identity, and applying trauma-informed approaches to equity work.

Michael has been a strong advocate for prevention, education, and restorative justice. He has brought these values to various roles, including Student Assistance Program Counselor at BHS, Substance Misuse Prevention Specialist at UVM, and currently, Pretrial and Tamarack Service Coordinator with the Burlington Community Justice Center.

Committed to equity and access, he strives to ensure communities have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Michael shared that he believes BPHC aligns with his values and sees his role on the board as a way to continue serving the community he calls home.

Ian holds a diverse academic background, including studies in health psychology, medical anthropology, and health education from Dartmouth, as well as a Master of Public Health from Harvard. His prior experience includes the co-creation and coordination of health-focused social and behavioral change initiatives aimed at promoting healthy choices in various settings across the US, Liberia, and Tanzania.

A recent move to Burlington with his partner has brought Ian to the local community. He currently works for a public health and emergency response technology company. Ian stated that BPHC’s clear mission and its methodical, data-driven, and public health-focused work were significant factors that drew him to the organization.

Ian’s vision is for a future where every individual has access to the resources, opportunities, support, and information needed to reach their highest potential for health and well-being. His expertise and commitment are anticipated to be valuable assets in advancing the BPHC's goals for a healthier Burlington.

Thank you Michel and Ian for stepping up for prevention and joining our Board of Advisors.
