BPHC Youth Empowerment

Our youth programming is off and running again this fall. We welcomed our new Youth Programming Coordinator, Ava Dudani, to the team in August, and she worked with the Student Assistance Professionals at Edmunds and Hunt Middle Schools and Burlington High School to launch after school youth empowerment groups at all three schools. We spent the first two months of the school year connecting Ava and the youth groups to students and caregivers in the district through tables and activities at BSD open houses, a soccer game, lunchtime activities and social events at all three schools. It has been exciting to see young people getting interested in coming up with strategies to improve the health of their community and support their peers.

At Burlington High School, our BHS Elevate campaign was off and running again at the start of the new school year. We matched up the new building with tips to help students “Build More Than Your School Schedule” by building new habits, supports, and positive memories. We worked to connect students to the support systems available in their new school building and ways to look back on their time in high school with pride - by encouraging healthy habits and getting involved in clubs, sports, and affinity groups that. High school students in our after school and in school prevention groups are working now on the next Elevate messaging we’ll be revealing soon…no spoilers for now!
